The number 1 has always been blue. Specifically, a hybrid shade between turquoise and azure. 4 is green, of course. A forest kind of green. I assumed that everyone saw what I saw: vivid shades punctuating each number and alphabet.

At 14, I found that I had synesthesia, a unique neurological condition that rendered the way I thought about the world intrinsically different from everybody else.
